Repair service for Drop and liquid damage on a laptop

In short: Drop and liquid damage on a laptop

It fell off the table, got crushed in a bag, or a glass went over it. Now a corner is open, the screen does something odd, and you do not know where to start.

Start here: more is repairable than it looks, and what is not repairable is better known straight away.

Free, honest diagnostics — including when the verdict is that it is not worth the money.

After a drop: what is an official part, what costs a lot, and what does not come back

The good news is that structural parts are in the catalogues. Makers list the base cover, the palm-rest top case, the display back cover, the bezel, hinge assemblies and hinge caps as separate parts. An open corner or a dented base is a documented job, not a bodge.

Three things push the bill up, all documented. A touch screen: HP supplies the full assembly only. Damaged power or USB-C ports on a machine with no DC-in module: the part is the board — motherboard or I/O daughter-board, and which one matters a lot. Soldered memory: board damage takes the RAM with it.

A battery after an impact is not judged by eye. Dell prescribes never refitting a damaged or swollen battery, and never crushing, puncturing or bending it.

And three claims we will never make. That oven reflow or reballing «permanently repairs» boards and GPUs: no service manual we consult prescribes component-level rework. That metal cases survive drops better than plastic: no maker publishes comparative data. That the board is «warped»: no documented procedure establishes it, so we would state it as a hypothesis. And on drives: if it took the impact and is mechanical and noisy, data recovery comes before test reboots.

What drives the quote
Structural partsbase, palm-rest, display cover, bezel and hinges are official parts
Touch screenon touch, many makers supply the full assembly only
Damaged portssystem board or I/O board: the difference moves the quote
Soldered memoryboard damage involves the RAM too
Battery after impactreplaced, never refitted: the maker's instruction
Drive that took the falldata recovery first, everything else after

The factors that actually move the cost of this job. They are not our rules: they depend on how the manufacturer supplies the part, and they are checked at the diagnosis stage before anything is ordered.

Frequently asked questions — Drop damage

It fell and a corner opened up: can it still be fixed?
Usually yes. Base cover, palm-rest, display back cover and hinges are official parts. The quote depends on how many are actually needed, and that is seen on opening.
The board is damaged: repair or replace?
The manufacturer-documented repair is board replacement. Component-level rework is not prescribed by any service manual, and no source certifies how long the result lasts. If it is worth attempting we say exactly that, in writing.
It still boots but behaves oddly: can it wait?
Two things cannot: a battery that took the impact, which makers say not to refit or use, and a noisy mechanical drive, where each power-on costs recovery odds.
What warranty comes with the part?
The cover is the one provided by the parts supplier and it is written in the quote, before you decide. An original manufacturer part and a compatible one do not carry the same cover.
How long does it take?
It comes down to one thing: whether the part is already here or has to be ordered. On a Windows laptop the right part depends on the model code, not on the size, so parts are ordered after diagnostics. When the part lands we work on it immediately.
