Repair service for Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+

Repairing your Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+

The Galaxy Tab A9+ is the Android tablet people buy for the house: eleven inches, a modest price, and bought in numbers because of it. It is the homework tablet, the cartoons tablet, the video-call-to-grandparents tablet.

It is also one of the few left with a headphone jack, and on a tablet used by children that matters more than it sounds.

Free diagnostics. It is an inexpensive tablet, so the real question is always: is it worth repairing?

Not sure what is broken?

Four questions and we tell you the likely repair. Then you message us with the problem already written in.

Galaxy Tab A9+: an LCD panel, a headphone jack and a sum worth doing first

The panel is an 11-inch TFT LCD at 90 Hz, not an AMOLED. For whoever repairs it that is good news: a replacement LCD costs a fraction of an AMOLED, and on a tablet in this class it is often the difference between “worth repairing” and “not worth it”. We do the sums together before ordering, and if they do not add up we say so: on an inexpensive tablet that happens, and we would rather tell you than have you spend for nothing.

It has the 3.5 mm jack, something now gone from high-end tablets. On a device that ends up in children's hands it is a port that fills with everything, and that gets damaged by a plug pushed in crooked. Before talking about replacing it we clean it and retry, during diagnosis, free of charge.

The battery is 7,040 mAh with 15 W charging, and there are three versions: Wi-Fi, LTE and 5G. The versions with mobile connectivity have a nano-SIM tray — a mechanical part that simply does not exist on the Wi-Fi versions. When you write to us, telling us which one you have saves a round trip.

Frequently asked questions about the Galaxy Tab A9+

It is a cheap tablet: is it worth repairing or should I buy another?
It depends what broke, and on this model the answer is “yes” more often than people expect, because the panel is LCD and costs little. We do the sums together before ordering anything. If it is not worth it, we say so — that is the answer that loses us the job, and it is still the right one.
It fell in water: can it be saved?
This tablet carries no water rating at all, so contact with water is real damage, not a false alarm. The most useful thing you can do is not switch it on and not put it on charge: bring it in exactly as it is, as soon as possible. The sooner it arrives, the more margin there is.
Wired headphones no longer work: is it the jack?
Very often it is just dirt. On a tablet that lives around the house the jack collects dust and crumbs, and the contact drops out. We clean it and retry during diagnosis, free of charge. If it works after cleaning, that was the problem.
The battery lasts far less than it used to: can it be replaced?
Yes. On these tablets the cell is bonded to the housing and fills almost the whole internal surface: the job needs controlled heat and patience, but it gets done. If instead the housing has lifted or the glass has risen on one side, do not wait: that is a swollen battery and it has to come out straight away.
Will I lose data if the display or the battery is replaced?
Storage is a different component and the job does not touch it. But on a device that has to be opened nobody can promise you a hundred per cent. We still always ask you to back up first, to Samsung Cloud, to Google or to a computer. It applies to every device, and it is the one thing that protects you if something goes wrong.
