Repair service for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE

Repairing your Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE is Samsung's middle road: it takes from the S series the two things that really count — the IP68 rating and the S Pen in the box — and gives up the AMOLED to stay under 600 euro.

It is the tablet for people who take notes and do not want to spend iPad Air money.

Free diagnostics. On an IP68-rated tablet there is a precise way to open it: we will explain it.

Galaxy Tab S9 FE: IP68 and an S Pen in the box, without the AMOLED price

The panel is a 10.9-inch TFT at 90 Hz, not the AMOLED of the full S series. That is the compromise that keeps the price down, and for whoever repairs it that is good news: the replacement costs far less than an AMOLED panel and a display job still makes sense years after purchase.

This tablet is IP68 rated, and that is rare: most tablets carry no rating at all. It means two opposite things. The first is good: a fall in water is not automatically a death sentence. The second is a rule of ours and we always say it — once a device has been opened, the seal is restored but the rating is not. We fit new adhesive and gaskets and the tablet goes back to shrugging off splashes as best it can, but nobody can re-certify it. A promise along the lines of “it stays waterproof just like before” cannot be verified by anyone: be wary of it.

The S Pen is included in the box and is IP68 rated as well. It has no battery: it works by induction with the digitiser layer under the display. That is why “the pen does not write” can mean two completely different things, with two completely different quotes — and why the first thing we do is test it across the whole surface.

Frequently asked questions about the Galaxy Tab S9 FE

The S Pen no longer writes: is it the stylus or the tablet?
We tell them apart at the diagnosis stage, and they are two very different quotes. The S Pen on Samsung tablets has no battery: it works by induction with the digitiser layer that sits under the display. If it writes nowhere, the suspect is the stylus, which is replaced and costs little. If it writes erratically or stops only in one area of the screen, the problem is the digitiser, which is replaced together with the display.
It is IP68: can I take it in the pool?
The rating covers fresh water under laboratory conditions, not chlorine or sea water, and it applies to an intact device that has never been opened. In practice: it survives a spilled glass, it is not an underwater device. And if it has already been opened once, that guarantee is gone.
Is it still waterproof after the repair?
We restore the seal with new adhesive and gaskets, and the tablet goes back to defending itself as best it can. But the IP68 rating does not come back, because no outside laboratory reissues it. We always say so, and we write it down: we would rather tell you something inconvenient than promise you something false.
The battery lasts far less than it used to: can it be replaced?
Yes. On these tablets the cell is bonded to the housing and fills almost the whole internal surface: the job needs controlled heat and patience, but it gets done. If instead the housing has lifted or the glass has risen on one side, do not wait: that is a swollen battery and it has to come out straight away.
What warranty is there on the part?
Two separate things. First: the cover on the part is the one from its supplier, and we state it in the quote before ordering, together with the type of part chosen. Second, and this always holds: towards you, we are the ones who answer — for the labour and for the part we fitted. Your statutory consumer rights stay intact and do not depend on the supplier.
