Repair service for Apple iPhone 12

Repairing your Apple iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 is the model that brought flat edges, Ceramic Shield and MagSafe. It is also the one that, five years on, reaches the bench for two reasons above all: an exhausted battery and broken glass.

Flat edges have a side effect you see on the bench: in a drop the corner takes the whole impact, and the glass goes more often than it did on the rounded models.

iPhone 12: OLED, Ceramic Shield and the back-glass problem

The iPhone 12 is the first iPhone with an OLED screen across the whole range: even the base model carries a Super Retina XDR rather than the LCD of the 11. Good news for the picture, less so for the wallet: a screen replacement costs more than on an iPhone 11.

The front is protected by Ceramic Shield, which handles drops better but is not indestructible: when it goes, it goes all at once. And here comes the sore point of this generation — the back glass is laminated to the frame. Replacing it is not swapping a panel: it is an invasive job that in many cases is only worth facing if the damage is serious. We tell you at the diagnosis stage, with the figure in front of you.

The 2,815 mAh battery is the other chapter. After five years of cycles the maximum capacity is typically below 80%, the threshold beyond which iOS starts limiting performance. If the phone feels slow, before giving up check Settings › Battery › Battery Health.

Frequently asked questions about the iPhone 12

Can the back glass be replaced?
Yes, but on the iPhone 12 it is laminated to the frame: it is not a pane that lifts off, it is an invasive job that often goes through replacing the housing. At the diagnosis stage we tell you whether it makes sense against what your phone is worth.
Does Face ID still work after a screen replacement?
Yes, provided the TrueDepth module was not damaged in the drop: we transfer it intact to the new display. If the module itself is broken it can be replaced and recalibrated: Apple supports this from iPhone 12 onwards, and the part can be ordered by independent workshops too. It is a longer and more expensive job than the display alone, and we tell you the cost before starting.
Does MagSafe still work after a repair?
Yes. The MagSafe coil is a component in its own right and can even be replaced on its own if it has stopped working: we check it in the final test.
Will the “non-genuine display” notice appear?
With a non-original part, yes, iOS shows that notice in settings. It does not affect how the phone or the screen work. If you want to avoid it the route is an original part, with the cost that comes with it: the choice is yours and we put it to you beforehand.
Will I lose the data on my phone?
Hardware replacements do not touch storage. The backup still has to be done: on a device that has to be opened nobody can guarantee you a hundred per cent. We still recommend a backup before any job, as a precaution.
