Repair service for Apple iPhone 17

Repairing your Apple iPhone 17

The iPhone 17 is the first base model with a 120 Hz screen: the smoothness that until yesterday was reserved for the Pro. A bigger 6.3-inch display, and Ceramic Shield 2 on the front.

It is a recent phone, so it reaches the bench for one reason almost exclusively: it was dropped. Battery and charging port, on a device this age, are still a long way off.

Free diagnostics and a quote before we proceed. On a phone this new the choice between original and compatible parts weighs more than elsewhere: we talk it through first.

iPhone 17: 120 Hz on the base model and Ceramic Shield 2

With the iPhone 17 Apple brings ProMotion up to 120 Hz to the base model as well, and grows the panel to 6.3 inches at 2622 × 1206 pixels and 460 ppi. It is the sharpest step of the generation, and it has a practical consequence: the display on this model is a valuable part, and the replacement is chosen carefully.

The front is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, the second generation of the reinforced glass. It holds up better, but the usual rule applies: no glass is indestructible, and on a phone with flat edges a corner drop remains the worst case.

The rest: USB-C with DisplayPort support, a 48 MP dual rear camera, an 18 MP Center Stage front camera, IP68 to 6 metres for 30 minutes and an aluminium frame. After every opening the water-resistance seals have to be redone: an extra step that adds to the turnaround, and one we do not skip.

Frequently asked questions about the iPhone 17

Does a 120 Hz display cost more to replace?
Yes, a ProMotion panel is a more expensive component than a 60 Hz one. It is also why on this model the choice between original and compatible parts makes a significant price difference: we put it to you before ordering.
Is Ceramic Shield 2 unbreakable?
No. It holds up better than ordinary glass and better than the first generation, but it does break: on a phone with flat edges a corner drop remains the worst case.
Is it still water resistant after the repair?
The iPhone 17 ships IP68 to 6 metres for 30 minutes. After every opening we restore the water-resistance seals, but no workshop can re-certify factory IP68: the seal is restored as far as it can be, but it is no longer the one measured at the factory and nobody reissues the original certification.
Will the “non-genuine display” notice appear?
With a non-original part, yes, iOS shows that notice in settings. It does not affect how the phone or the screen work. If you want to avoid it the route is an original part, with the cost that comes with it: the choice is yours and we put it to you beforehand.
Will I lose the data on my phone?
Hardware replacements do not touch storage. The backup still has to be done: on a device that has to be opened nobody can guarantee you a hundred per cent. We still recommend a backup before any job, as a precaution.
