This is the MacBook Air with the butterfly keyboard: the one where a speck of dust is enough to jam a key or make it type twice. If it happens to you, it is not bad luck — it is the mechanism.
Apple ran a free keyboard replacement programme. It is now closed: the Apple page answers «The Apple Service Program you are looking for has ended», and the keyboard is no longer among the active programmes.

The iFixit teardown identifies a third-generation butterfly keyboard and gives the machine 3 out of 10 for repairability, with a blunt reason: soldered, non-upgradeable memory and storage. Apple's own specs call the memory onboard.
On the keyboard there is something almost nobody mentions. Apple does sell individual keys — there is a dedicated page and a «Keys» procedure with keycaps and scissor mechanisms — but also states that «if a keycap replacement doesn't resolve the issue, replace the top case».
The rest is classic Intel laptop servicing: fan and heatsink clog, thermal paste dries out. We recommend it every 18–24 months — not an Apple-published interval, no manufacturer publishes one: it is our workshop's recommendation.
One note worth money: on this model the battery is its own part in Apple's manuals, not tied to the top case as on the MacBook Pro.
