Repair service for Apple MacBook Air (M2, 2022 · M3, 2024)

Repairing your Apple MacBook Air (M2, 2022 · M3, 2024)

With the M2 the MagSafe returns to the Air, and for repair that is better news than it sounds: in Apple's manuals the charging port is its own board, with its own procedure, separate from the logic board.

A damaged charging port — the thing that on most laptops forces you onto the motherboard — is solved here by swapping a small part.

The battery is a standalone procedure too. Free diagnostics.

MagSafe as its own board and a separate battery: the MacBook Air M2 and M3

Apple's repair manuals for the MacBook Air M2 (2022) and M3 (2024) list «MagSafe 3 Board», «Battery», «Top Case with Keyboard» and «Logic Board» as independent procedures. iFixit confirms with a dedicated guide and a catalogue part for the M2 MagSafe board.

It is the difference that matters most on this generation. On most laptops a broken charging port means a daughter board or, worse, micro-soldering on the motherboard. Here it is a module.

Everything else follows the platform: memory in the chip package, soldered SSD, keyboard inside the top case assembly.

The battery is its own part here as on the M1: a collapsed runtime does not force the whole upper assembly.

Frequently asked questions about the MacBook Air M2 e M3

The charger no longer latches properly: is it the logic board?
Almost certainly not. In Apple's manuals the «MagSafe 3 Board» is an independent procedure: the port is replaced without touching the logic board.
Can just the battery be replaced?
Yes. On MacBook Air, Apple's manual has «Battery» as its own procedure — unlike the MacBook Pro.
Can RAM or SSD be increased after purchase?
No. Memory in the chip package and soldered SSD.
If the board fails, can my data be recovered?
On a recent Mac this has to be said upfront. Apple documents that the encryption keys are built on the chip's hardware, and states that internal APFS volumes «remain encrypted and are protected from unauthorized access even if the physical storage device is removed and connected to another computer». With a soldered SSD and a failed logic board there is no ordinary recovery path.
How long does it take?
It comes down to one thing: whether the part is already here or has to be ordered. Parts are ordered after diagnostics. When the part lands we work on it immediately.
