Repair service for Apple MacBook Pro 13" (M1, 2020 · M2, 2022)

Repairing your Apple MacBook Pro 13" (M1, 2020 · M2, 2022)

Same chip as the Air, but with a real fan — and one difference you only see when something breaks: here the battery on its own does not exist.

Apple's repair manuals for these two models contain no «Battery» procedure. They contain «Top Case with Battery and Keyboard».

That is not our opinion, it is how Apple supplies the part. Free diagnostics.

Battery only inside the top case: the MacBook Pro 13" M1 and M2

The difference from the Air of the same generation is sharp. On MacBook Air Apple's manuals have «Battery» as a standalone procedure. On the 13" M1 and M2 Pro that procedure does not exist.

The flip side is that the job renews everything else too: a new keyboard arrives with the battery. On a heavily used machine that is not necessarily waste.

Unlike the M1 Air, there is a fan here, and with it thermal servicing. We recommend every 18–24 months — our recommendation, not a published one.

Memory in the chip package, soldered SSD: platform rules apply.

Frequently asked questions about the MacBook Pro 13" M1 e M2

Why does the battery cost more than on a MacBook Air?
Because it is not the same part. On the Air Apple has «Battery» as its own procedure; on these Pro models that procedure does not exist.
So I get a new keyboard as well?
Yes, and it is the one upside: keyboard and upper case are renewed along with the battery.
The fan is noisy: does it need replacing?
Dust first. In most cases the noise comes from a clogged heatsink, not the bearing.
If the board fails, can my data be recovered?
On a recent Mac this has to be said upfront. Apple documents that the encryption keys are built on the chip's hardware, and states that internal APFS volumes «remain encrypted and are protected from unauthorized access even if the physical storage device is removed and connected to another computer». With a soldered SSD and a failed logic board there is no ordinary recovery path.
How long does it take?
It comes down to one thing: whether the part is already here or has to be ordered. Parts are ordered after diagnostics. When the part lands we work on it immediately.
