The first Apple-silicon Air, and the first with no fan. That is not a spec sheet detail: it means that on this machine «thermal servicing» — the first job on any other laptop — simply does not exist.
Nothing spins inside: iFixit documents an aluminium heat spreader in place of the fan, with a cold plate over the processor. Anyone offering «fan cleaning and thermal paste» on an M1 Air is selling a job that is not there.

The fact that changes everything is the missing fan. iFixit puts it plainly: «The Air no longer actively moves air». On this model an Air that runs hot or slow is not fixed by a clean-out.
The battery is the good news. Apple's repair manual lists «Battery» and «Top Case with Keyboard» as two distinct procedures: the battery is replaced without taking the whole upper assembly. The opposite of the MacBook Pro of the same generation.
The iFixit guide counts six stretch-release adhesive strips holding the battery pack to its tray. That is the part of the job that needs patience, not force.
Memory and storage cannot be touched. Apple states that the memory is integrated into the chip package and cannot be upgraded.
