One single piece: no Joy-Con to detach, no rails, a real D-pad. It is the easiest Switch to carry and the one where drift costs most, for a purely mechanical reason.
The stick is not inside a 50-gram controller that slides off: it is inside the console. It is not soldered — here too it is a ribbon on a connector — but reaching it takes 29 steps in the iFixit guide against 14 for a Joy-Con, and the thermal paste has to be redone on reassembly.

On the Lite the stick is not soldered, and that is worth saying because the opposite circulates: the iFixit guide instructs you to lift the ZIF connector flap and slide the cable out, exactly as on a Joy-Con. The difference is how much console has to come apart: 29 steps against 14.
The free route exists and we are the ones telling you. Nintendo states that in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it repairs control-stick responsiveness syndrome at no charge, «even if the syndrome is caused by wear and tear» and «even if the 24-month warranty has expired». For the Lite Nintendo takes in the whole console. The one risk: Nintendo reserves the right to refuse if the device has already been opened by others.
On everything else the Lite is generous: glass and LCD are two distinct parts. There is a fan, a heatsink and thermal paste as on the other models. The USB-C port is soldered here too.
One rarely mentioned advantage: with no Joy-Con rails it has none of the rail faults. Servicing recommended every 18–24 months.
